I am fascinated by the sea when the swell is so extreme and the weather is fantastically dire that barely a sole dares to brave the weather. The best place to go when it is like that is just around the corner from Worms Head. The rocks extrude, displaying their harsh painful spikes through the crashing sea. And what is so interesting is the fabulous juxtaposition of the harsh raw elements and then the delicate foam that is whipped up by the sea. It encases the dark rocks, almost hugging them like a blanket and it rises and falls with the waves. Such an intriguing sight and precisely why I love winter.

How much fun can you have with a piece of string?

The new avenue I am going down this week is added material, specifically fibres.

When at the coast the interaction with man is written everywhere, mainly by rubbish or fishing materials i.e. rope/string.
It also makes for a fantastic material to layer an image physically.
I shall see...

Beautiful... I want this in my future house.

I have always been intrigued with Amber. So many different types and colours and all made by the earth and extreme conditions it is put through.

Jewells and crystals are such archetype beautiful objects yet go though such destructive processes; this is why I am fascinated by rock, the ocean and sand.
RAW energy and destruction equating to creation.

Geology Obsession

I am obsessed with geology, geological formations in the landscape and studying it.

Thank you Bing for a tantalising scrumptious extract of images that made me want to go back to Iceland! I am inspired to return to Iceland and hope to go in the next year or two, but as the image above shows, colour is a fantastic weakness I have when studying features in the landscape, especially geysers. Understanding form, technique, gesture, layers etc. will have to continue until I am more confident with monochrome and able to possibly re-introduce colour without being seduced by it.

A drawing I did on Monday, experimenting with paper.

Long and productive day today, though it doesn't feel like it.

I have stretched 223 pieces of paper ready to draw! I have now used 10 different types and weights of paper, and have yet to choose which colour, weight, scale and make I like! Last chance to do large scale drawing in Swansea Met and have until Friday to work my tooshie off. Living in the print room after Easter in between Brecon and sleeping :)
